Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) will take a leadership role within our clinical team. This position requires a strong medical background due to the complex nature of retinal conditions, which are often associated with underlying medical issues. The RN will work closely with the Nurse Clinic Director and other staff to oversee the daily operations of the clinic, ensuring that all functions are executed with professionalism and efficiency. Key responsibilities include patient care, training, supervising clinical staff, and ensuring the smooth flow of the clinic.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist ophthalmologists during ocular procedures such as Intravitreal Injections (IVIs), lasers, photodynamic therapy, and pneumatic retinopexy.
- Train and educate clinical staff on patient care, procedures, and medical protocols.
- Oversee the collection of patient medical histories and ensure proper documentation.
- Evaluate and record visual acuity and other ocular functions.
- Administer medications, including epinephrine, Benadryl, fluorescein, and indocyanine green dye.
- Perform diagnostic tests such as angiograms and ultrasounds.
- Triage and manage patient communications, both during in-office visits and follow-ups.
- Ensure timely patient flow through appointments, minimizing wait times and optimizing clinic efficiency.
- Proof and review charts for new, follow-up, and PRN (as needed) patients prior to referring them to other healthcare providers.
- Supervise, mentor, and manage the clinical staff, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to clinic protocols.
- Schedule daily staffing to ensure adequate coverage based on patient volume.
- Review and approve time-off requests for clinical staff.
- Interview candidates for the Grassi Retina Gap Year Internship (GRGYI) program.
- Conduct 1-on-1 meetings with clinical staff to provide feedback, offer support, and address any issues.
- Collaborate with the Office Manager to order medical supplies and ensure proper inventory.
- Manage clinic flow and maintain equipment, including coordinating maintenance and service as needed.
- Maintain appropriate staff-to-patient ratios to ensure quality care.
- Coordinate on-call schedules for clinical staff.
Requirements:
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Previous experience in a clinical setting is preferred. We are willing to train qualified candidates to our specific protocols and procedures.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with physicians, staff, and patients.
- High attention to detail, professionalism, and reliability.
- Ability to train and mentor clinical staff, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient care and clinic success.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing clinic demands.
Work Hours:
- Standard clinic hours are 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM, with variations based on patient volume and emergencies.
- Closed on Sundays and most major holidays.

Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Surgical Technician to join our team to assist with procedures, such as intravitreal injections. This position will report to our Nurse Clinic Director and will be responsible for maintaining and updating our protocols so that they achieve our standard of Expert Medical Retina Care as well as evidence-based practice.
The ideal candidate will assist in a variety of procedures specific to retina care, ensuring a sterile environment and supporting the team. This role requires strong attention to detail, a thorough understanding of ophthalmic procedures (we will train), excellent communication skills, and a positive attitude.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain the surgical environment, ensuring all necessary instruments and equipment are sterilized and ready for use.
- Assist MD during ocular procedures and train new staff accordingly: IVIs, lasers, photodynamic therapy, pneumatic retinopexy.
- Inspects instruments and power equipment prior to use to assure operational order.
- Performs or assists in sterile preps as needed/requested by monitoring aseptic techniques of surgical team members at field, reporting and correcting breaks in sterile technique immediately, and controlling location of contaminated instruments and supplies.
- Maintains appropriate quantities of surgical supplies and equipment by restocking rooms with necessary equipment and supplies and apprises supervisor of special requests for surgical supplies and equipment.
- Monitor and maintain the sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
- Prepare patients for surgery, including pre-operative assessments and answering patient questions.
- Assist in post-operative care, including patient education and monitoring recovery.
- Collaborate with the medical team to ensure efficient workflow and optimal patient care.
- Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures and inventory of supplies.
- Adhere to safety and infection control protocols.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required. Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) is preferred.
- Previous experience in an ophthalmic or surgical setting is a plus.
- Basic understanding of surgical instruments and procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate approach to patient care.
