Michael A. Grassi, MD

Michael A. Grassi, MD is one of the nation’s leading medical retina specialists. His expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of retina conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Grassi is also an expert in complex and rare retinal diseases.

After attending medical school at Northwestern University, Dr. Grassi completed a general ophthalmology residency plus a 3-year medical retina fellowship at the University of Iowa. He was previously a tenured faculty member at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) where he directed the NIH-supported Retina Chemical Genomics Laboratory. Dr. Grassi has been inducted into several honorary organizations including Alpha Omega Alpha and the Heed Fellowship. He is also the recipient of multiple awards from professional organizations including the American University Professors of Ophthalmology Research Award; the NIH New Investigator Award; and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology/Alcon Early Career Clinician-Scientist Award. Dr. Grassi has been practicing in the Chicagoland area since 2006. He lives in Naperville with his family.
